Program (PAS):
- Personal Assistance Service Program (PAS):
The Personal Assistance Program (PAS) is funded through the PA Dept. of Public Welfare (DPW) Waiver Services. Individuals are
authorized for the program through the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) which are located in every county in PA and are divisions
of the PA Dept. of Aging. The PAS program offers two different service delivery models which allow qualified individuals to
choose the model that best suits their needs. The service delivery models are as follows:

Consumer Employed Model: This Consumer Employed Model allows the consumer to recruit, hire, supervise, discipline and discharge
their own personal assistance workers. The payroll management and disbursement activities will be completed by an MA certified
fiscal agent such as a private payroll company, the AAA, an MA service provider, or a DPW Attendant Care provider currently providing
the service to DPW Attendant Care Waiver Consumers such as Helpmates, Inc.
- Agency Employed Model: The Agency Employed Model is when the eligible consumer is not responsible for managing any aspects of his/her PAS.
A provider agency (such as Helpmates, Inc.) or AAA will employ the PAS worker and manage all aspects of the consumer's PAS.

The Pa Dept. of Aging Waiver Program allows eligible individuals in need of nursing home care to receive their care at home.
Individuals must be at least 60 years of age and meet certain financial guidelines. Individuals are qualified for the program
through their local Area Agency on Aging.

The PA Dept. of Aging Options Program allows eligible individuals who need help with their personal care receive "hands on"
assistance. Individuals are qualified for the program through their local Area Agency on Aging (AAA). A representative from the
AAA will assess the client and determine their needs which will be reflected in a care plan if they qualify. For more information

- Private pay rates vary by office. Please contact the office location nearest to you for specific information.
- Special funding provided through your local Area Agency on Aging to those who qualify.
- Veterans and spouses may qualify for services through the VA
- Certain "Long Term Care Insurance" policies

- Medication Prompting
Services are coordinated on an individual basis according to the needs of the consumer.
Services are available on an hourly basis from one hour a day up to 24 hours a day 7 days a week including holidays.
Non-medical services are provided by personal care aides who:

Are thoroughly trained to provide care in a safe, secure and appropriate manner.

Have had criminal background checks completed.

Are bonded and insured.

The non-medical services provided by Helpmates, Inc. allows those in need of assistance to live safely and
